Day 5 early human blastocyst |
Comment
|
Once the embryo has compacted, the embryo created a fluid cavity in the centre of the cell mass. The cavity, called the blastocoel, starts in one side of the embryo and gradually expands. The cells of the embryo flatten around the outside of the cell mass to create two cell layers. The outer layer, the trophectoderm starts as a row of large cells that gradually increase in number and increasingly flatten against the zona pellucida. A few cells are isolated from the trophectodermal cells to remain attached. These cells start to form the inner cell mass. |
